Ben Bulben, Tree
I spotted this wind blown tree on a dog walk with a friend. We went to a walk at the base of Ben Bulban, Sligo.
I could not stop looking at this tree, the symmetry with the triangle shaped field in the background just spoke to me…
I stopped and viewed this tree for quite sometime before taking the shot. An old friend John Crook’s words were ringing in my ears…
“Don’t shoot to see, see to shoot.”
When I met John we clicked instantly, I taught him Adobe Photoshop and he taught me Photography. I already knew photography from a technical perspective, with this I believed I knew it all.
He showed me the other dimension of image capture, patience, perspective and imagination.
Sadly John died from the colon cancer he had when I first met him. He was a wonderful man. He encouraged me to buy my first digital camera and we spent a lot of time sharing our skills.
His unique twist on photography was to pair it with Haiku poetry. I learned a lot from John, I really miss him.
